Joan D. Hoyer
June 3rd, 1937 - February 22nd, 2016
Joan D. Hoyer, 78, of Fort Plain, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, with her loving family at her side. Born June 3, 1937 in Palatine Bridge, New York, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Margaret Elizabeth Benton Dodson. Joan was an avid farmer, enjoying her life on the farm and caring for all the animals. She was well known for her love of baking; always making many delicious cakes and cinnamon rolls. Joan went on to be a cook at various restaurants, including, the TA Truck Stop, K-C Corners and the 5s Diner before retiring. Besides being a loving mother to her own children, Joan had a huge heart and for many years was a foster mother to many deserving children. Her most rewarding job was being a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend; she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her loving family, children, Terry Mussmacher, Karen Sweet, Garry Sweet, Leon Sweet (Florence), Susan Jennison, Sally Meade (Perry), Billy Hoyer, April Hoyer and Tommy Hoyer; siblings, Anna Mae Weaver, Carl Dodson, Floyd "Jack" Dodson and Donna Dodson-Smith; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan was predeceased by her brother, Zane "Zeke" Dodson; sister, Mildred "Milly" Riesdorph; grandson, Michael Mussmacher and the late Tom Hoyer. A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY, 13317. Calling hours will be held prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Freysbush Cemetery, Fort Plain. Online condolences can be made at www.brbsfuneral.com
