Joan Mary McCall

McCall, Joan Mary, 82 of St. Augustine and Wesley Chapel, Florida died peacefully on August 17 with her family by her side. Joan was born on January 16, 1933 in Syracuse, NY where she lived most of her life. A Spirited Mom to Elaine, Beth, Dan, and John and their spouses, Joan blessed them all with love and laughter and ‘Joanisms’ to pass down for generations. She was Grammy to 7 incredible grandchildren and 2 precious great grandchildren; Aunt Joan to nieces and nephews, especially Jana; and friend to many. Joan was a graduate of Convent High School in Syracuse. She was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Tampa. During her life, Joan had been an accomplished artist, writer, decorator, musician, caregiver and beloved fun mom. She enjoyed music, movies, crocheting, the beach, reading a great novel and her Rhine wine of course. Joan was married in Heidelberg Germany. Her professional career included positions in architectural drafting, fashion model drawing for ad agencies, logistics and retail. Early in Joan’s art career, she studied under Norman Rockwell. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James Edward McCall; three sisters, Beverly Freund, Joyce Hanlon and her twin, Jeanine Shattell. Joan is survived by two sons, Daniel James McCall (Tamara), John Edward McCall (Lisa); two daughters, Elaine Mary McCall and Elizabeth Phillips (Michael); seven grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. We will all miss her warm smile, her funny stories, her laughter, her advice and her companionship. Her final resting place will be in her beloved St. Augustine, FL.
