Joan Ramsey Sparnell Joan Sparnell, 80, formerly of Charlotte, NC died at home in York, SC on September 11, 2012. A native of Spartanburg, SC, she was born January 30, 1932, daughter of the late Albert and Cumy Hammond Ramsey. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sparnell was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Sparnell and two sons, Albert Keith Sparnell and Terry Randall Sparnell. She worked for over 30 years at Bowmann and Dunn Manufacturing Co. Mrs. Sparnell?s family was her life. She had a huge influence on her children and grandchildren as well as the children of friends. She is survived by a daughter, Rhonda S. Benfield of Charlotte, NC; three sons, Gene Sparnell of Unionville, SC, Robert Henry Sparnell and his wife, Trina of Kannapolis, NC and Michael Sparnell of York, SC; 28 grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth Ramsey and his wife, Sarah of Spartanburg, SC. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM of Saturday, September 15, 2012 in the Hankins & Whittington Chapel with interment following in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 at the funeral home, 1111 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC.
