Joann Lenea Mathias

Joann Lenea Mathias passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2022 in West Columbia, SC with dementia. She was a typist at the SC Ratings Bureau. She enjoyed watching her red cardinals from her bird feeder at home. She enjoyed watching Father Brown’s Blue Grass Music Songs of the Mountain and the Lawrence Welk Show on ETU. She also enjoyed attending agriculture programs at North Carolina State University with her son and seeing livestock shows. Joann was born to her parents, Girlie Bachman Shumpert and Owen Shumpert growing up in the Bethel Methodist Church at Peachtree Rock. She was married to Simon A. Mathias for 51 years until his death. She loved her family, her daughter, Darlene Mathias (Long) and her son, Ronnie Mathias. The family would like to thank the staff at Providence Hospital, the staff at Universal Health Services, and Meals on Wheels for their heartfelt kindness over the years. Funeral Services for Joann Mathias will be held at Mt Hermon Lutheran Church, 3011 Leaphart Rd. West Columbia, SC, on Wed. July 27th, 2022 at 3pm. Visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Rd. Lexington, SC, on Tues. July 26th, 2022 from 5-7pm. Burial will follow the service at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 W Dunbar Rd. West Columbia, SC.
