Aspen Mortuaries - Lakewood
Joanne Marie Gefford
August 9th, 1943 - July 23rd, 2021
Joanne M. Gefford August 9, 1943 - July 23, 2021 Joanne M. Gefford passed away peacefully from the progression of dementia at the Hallmark Nursing Center in Denver, CO on July 23rd, 2021 with her two sons David and Eric by her side. She was 77 years old. Joanne was born in Scranton, PA on August 9th, 1943 to Joseph and Harriet McConnon. She spent her childhood and early years in Scranton where she graduated from the West Scranton High School and worked in the office department of "The Globe" store until meeting her true love and husband Richard. After her marriage to Richard she temporarily moved to a few cities in the Western U.S., due to Richard's active Air Force status, until settling down in Colorado where she gave birth to her two sons David and Eric. She would remain in Colorado the rest of her life where she would touch so many lives with her bright, selfless, and often humorous personality and her long, thoughtful, and inquisitive conversations with many people. Her passions were talking to others, traveling the world with her husband and sons, and going shopping to buy gifts for everyone for all occasions. She was truly a living "Mrs. Santa Claus". She was primarily a "Home Maker" where she focused her love and attention on raising her two sons in Denver and Arvada, but did do occasional side work in day care and security. After the passing of her husband in 2008 she moved up to Milliken to live closer to her best friend Gloria. In 2017 she was involved in a serious car accident where she broke her hip and was diagnosed with dementia. Unable to return to self-sufficiency, she remained under assisted nursing care in Greeley and Denver until her passing. No services will be held per Joanne†™s request and she will be interned at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Co with her husband Richard, whom she has missed dearly every day since his death. Joanne is survived by her two sons David and Eric, her sister Judy, her brother Joe, two nieces, and two nephews. She will be forever missed and remembered by all of her family and friends!
