Joanne M. Holmes

"South Hadley-Joanne M. (Smolen) Holmes, 70, passed away April 18, 2019. Born January 20, 1949 in Holyoke, she was the daughter of Edward and Anna (Obuchowski) Smolen. Joanne has lived in South Hadley since 1972 and for 30 years worked as an assistant comptroller at Mt. Holyoke College. Prior to Mt. Holyoke College, she worked at Chicopee Savings Bank on Center St. in Chicopee. She loved camping and the many dogs she had throughout her life. Her four legged friends were always adored. Joanne will be missed by her husband of 50 years, Robert C. Holmes along with her brother, Steven Smolen of Monson and in-laws, Margaret Prescott of CT, Betty Petrosek of Northampton, and David Holmes of FL. Visitation will be Friday April 26th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. Committal prayers will be Monday April 29th at 10:00 a.m. at the MA Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. in Agawam.
