Joanne M Simon

Joanne M. Simon, age 79, of Rockledge, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday September 7, 2020. She was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1941 to the late Peter and Johanna McCullough. Joanne graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School and continued her education at Nazareth Hospital School of X-Ray Technician where she obtained a degree as an x-ray technician in 1961. Joanne met her husband of 49.5 years at a local theater group in Philadelphia where they both worked on set designs as a hobby. They soon eloped and moved to New York in 1971 where they finally settled in Mohegan Lake, NY for nearly 30 years to raise their family. They retired in 2000 and moved to Florida to be close to siblings and cousins. Joanne is known for her strength, not only with her will to live and fight for life, but also her strength in helping others, especially family. Joanne took most pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren and her focus was always on family. She was the cousin or aunt to turn to if a helping hand was needed or just to talk. Throughout her life, she held several different careers: x-ray technician, teacher’s aide, and medical billing; however, her favorite position was homemaker and caregiver to her children and grandchildren. When she wasn’t raising her family, Joanne was an avid reader and lover of stories in all forms. Joanne is survived by her loving husband, Charles “Charlie” Simon, as well as her son Charles “Chip” Simon and his wife Renae of Cocoa, FL and her daughter Meredith Parrish and her husband Robert of Woodbine, MD. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Taylor, Charlotte, Robert and Liliana, along with many cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces and her dog, Remy. The family is appreciative of the loving care and support of Wuesthoff Hospice provided to Joanne and her family. Due to Covid-19, services to celebrate Joanne’s life will be postponed until 2021 when family can gather safely in true Irish tradition.
