Joe Hernandez
November 13th, 1949 - November 5th, 2020
The best tributes are those that came from the heart. . . This is a quote from Bruce Lee's wife, Linda Lee: "All these years later, people still wonder about how Bruce died. I prefer to remember how he lived." Years will pass and people will still wonder how Dad died, I will prefer to remember how Dad lived. Obituaries' will either bring laughter or leave lumps in our throats. Well not exactly his words because this would have included a bunch of swear words. Jose Hernandez, aka Joe, Indio, Pepe, Thundercloud, Brother Joe and finally, he was known as Dad to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dad was born in El Paso, Texas and he resided in Arvada, Colorado since 2008. He passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 5, 2020. We believe he died peacefully in his sleep. Dad obtained his GED at UTEP and went on to be Joe of all trades, master of many. To list a few, he delivered building materials, drove semi-trucks and towed vehicles. The funniest memory as a truck driver was when he saw a pink elephant. He thought he was seeing things. When he got into town, the waitress confirmed that a pink elephant had escaped from the circus. For a time, he was a Chef. He would come home with food and desserts all the time. He had a green thumb and enjoyed working on the yard. When we lived on Apache St, he had the whole family dig up the yard and we planted new grass and sod. We had the most beautiful green grass on the block. Although he had many unique abilities, he was proud to be a Master Mechanic and loved working on cars. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his family, just grilling or having dinner. His favorite show was the Rifleman and he was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, that was his team! Dad had the natural talent and personality to make friends no matter the situation. He was a man of many words and stories, some factual and others not so factual. Regardless he did light up many faces with laughter. He did many good things and helped lots of people. It didn't matter who you were - he'd give the shirt off his back! The one thing everyone knew about him, he was a charmer and a girl watcher. Turning his head like an owl and pulling a U-turn to get another glance was his classic move. Despite his crusty exterior, cutting remarks and stubbornness, he loved deeply. He is preceded in death by: His parents Francisco and Beatriz, his brother's Angel and Romulo, his sister's Carmen and Victoria, his nephew Victor, his father-in-law Rocky Moncada and his brothers-in-law Mike Duarte and Ricardo Vega. Dad is in great company with his loved ones, telling jokes and being a badass! Dad was truly a great man whose impact will forever be felt by the family that loves him dearly and knows that they will see each other again. He was a selfless man whose passing has left a hole only he can fill. Dad led a good life. He was able to snag a good woman, Maria Magdalena the love of his life, the woman who would stand beside him through thick and thin. They were able to hold on to each other for 51 years, and as far as we know restraints were not used. Also left to keep the stories alive (unfortunately, there won't be any new material) Dad will be remembered by his children: Robert Hernandez, Chrys Hernandez, Joe Hernandez Jr (Maria Elena Hernandez), Rosario Hernandez (Louie Gomez, Jr.), Giermo Moncada (Kara-Bree Price) and Joseph Hernandez (Kaitlyn Anderson). His grandchildren: Robert Hernandez Jr., Naomi Jones (William Jones), Nicole "Guera" Moreno, Cristen Hernandez, Julian Hernandez (Chloe Ornelas), Joanna Hernandez, Joey Hernandez, Jess Hernandez (Danny Avalos), Valerie Jacobs (Dylan Jacobs), Louie Gomez III (Destiny Camposano), Danielle Gomez, Domenik Gomez, Denise Camposano, Andres Camposano (Jemel Camposano), Desiree Camposano, Andrew Camposano His great grandchildren: Cayden Lee Moreno "Gordo", Riley Jones "My Princess", Lucas Jones "Little Billy", Alia Hernandez, Joey Gallegos, Jocelyn Jordan Avalos, Maxine Jacobs, Mason Jacobs, Louie Gomez IV, Kiyan Gomez, Katalina Ramirez, Legacy Camposano. His family: Frank Hernandez, Larry Hernandez, Louie Hernandez, Jesus Hernandez, Johnny Hernandez brothers, Josefina Hernandez, Betty Gay, Gloria Valencia, Lorenza Guillen, Rosa Caballero, Juanita Anaya, Angelina Martinez sisters, nieces, nephews, in-laws and many dear friends. Dad considered himself lucky and blessed to have his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was always there for us through the ups and downs and taught us to enjoy every moment life has to offer. He would want all of us to remember him with a smile rather than with tears. His memories will live on in us and we will be forever grateful for his presence in our lives. For those of you that did meet him, we apologize, as we're sure he probably offended you. He was world renowned for not holding back and telling it like it is. He always had something to say and always had to get in the last word. He was never wrong, if you asked him, he would have told you so. He was a loving and caring man. He will be deeply missed and treasured forever. He lit up the world, he could make your heart skip a beat and he could make you laugh and smile without even trying. Heaven is blessed to have a soul like his. Love Always, God Bless Us, Sweet-n-Innocent, Forever and a Day! Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, in all his strength, on his final day he took his last breath and went peacefully. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace Dad, you will not be forgotten. "You're going to think of me when I'm gone, you will remember me when I die."
