Joe E. Reed

Joe E. Reed, of Westminster, Colorado, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather passed away peacefully at home, with his daughter, Karen Link, and son-in-law, Dean, on February 29th, 2024. He was 90. Joe was born in Bowie, Texas. He graduated from Texas Technological College, now Texas Tech University, with a Bachelor’s of Science in Petroleum Geology and earned a Master’s in Science in Mathematics from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. After earning his undergraduate degree, Joe worked for the U.S. Department of the Interior as a Hydrologist and Geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey. Joe’s research was published in scientific journals and he authored several books. He received many awards for his work which included writing computer programs to enable data analysis that was previously done by hand. He worked for the U.S.G.S. until his retirement. After finding early success in his work at the U.S.G.S. he also found there the love of his life, Phyllis Eckhardt. Following a whirlwind romance of three months, they were married and spent 41 wonderful years together. Joe was a dog lover and an avid outdoorsman and spent his free time camping frequently and bicycling almost daily.

Preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis. Father to Karen Lynn Link (Dean). Step-Father to Lyle Hahn (Barbara), Jeffory Hahn (deceased) (Sandra). Step-Grandfather to Theresa Hahn, Troy Hahn (Mary), Jamie Hahn, Jeffory B. Hahn, Step-Great-Grandfather to Christian Hahn, Josef Hahn, Kaitlin Hahn, Greyson Hahn, and Riley Hahn.
