Joe Watson
October 17th, 2018
Joe Watson After a long and full life, at the age of 90, Joe Watson passed away peacefully at home. Born in 1928 in Gore, Oklahoma, his family moved to California when he was 5 years old. Joe grew up with four brothers and one sister. In 1950, he married Mary Ellen Doney. They had three children, Ted, Tom, and Pam, who presented them with grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. They had a very close family and enjoyed an incredible life together full of fun and love. Following graduation from Arcata High School, Joe enlisted in the Army serving in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper during the Korean war. When he was released from active duty, he attended and graduated from Open Bible Standard College in Eugene. He served in various church leadership roles throughout his life. At home, through the steadfast witness of his life and faith in Christ, he opened the doors of faith for his children. He began his working career with Cummins Oregon Diesel as a mechanic and then as a Sales Rep. An auto accident in 1986, which resulted in brain injury, brought the onset of dementia bringing his working life to a close. Aside from his family, the love of his life was flying. He obtained his private license at age 22 and went on to earn an instrument rating. During his years as an aviator, he owned nearly 30 different aircraft. When his working years ended, he found a home-away-from-home at the airport in Creswell, Oregon - Hobby Field. His hangar, prominent on the flight line, became a primary hangout for pilots and enthusiasts alike. His easy smile, quiet assurance, and comfortable presence will be greatly missed. We look forward to that glorious day when we all shall meet again. A celebration of life service will be held at Allison Park Christian Church at 2 p.m. November 10, followed by a family reception.
