Joel Alexander Basso

Joel Alexander Basso passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Christmas Day 2012. He leaves behind a large, loving circle of family and friends who are devastated by his loss, but rejoicing in the knowledge that he is now with our Savior. Joel resided in Gig Harbor for the first 10 years of his life before moving to Pittsburgh with his family in 1998. Joel recently relocated back to the NW in 2010 after living on the East Coast for the past 12 years. He was a 2010 graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia, where he majored in business and marketing. Joel also served as an anchor member of the Wheeling Jesuit men’s Lacrosse team, where he contributed to 4 great seasons for the Cardinals. Joel loved his friends, family and his faithful dog, Bruce with all of his heart. He enjoyed coaching Lacrosse at Bellarmine Prep, spending summers on Vashon Island with his cousins, and cruising around town in his Mustang. Joel was a fitness enthusiast and an avid outdoorsman who loved bow hunting. He was also greatly respected for his strong work ethic. He was a young man with ambition, dreams and dogged determination. Joel was extremely fun loving, and had a “zest for life”, that drew many people to him. Joel is survived by his mother, Tamara Kennedy of Puyallup, sister, Jenna Brandenburg of Nashville, Father, Ronald Basso of Seattle, Great Grandmother, Esther Stillwell of Tacoma, Uncles, Mike Kennedy of Edgewood, John Kennedy of Puyallup and Aunt & Uncle, Teri & Ken Jenkins of Edgewood, Aunt, Sandra Basso of West Virginia. Joel has a large extended family of Great Aunts, Uncles and Cousins all of whom he was very close to. He was a young man with a great sense of pride, humor and character. Although his life was cut short at just 24 years, Joel made an indelible mark on this world and will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Viewing will be held at Curnow Funeral Home, 1504 Main St. in Sumner on Wednesday Jan. 2 from 5-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Tacoma followed by a celebration of Joel’s life at 2 p.m. at the Lighthouse Christian Center, 3409 23rd St. S.W.
