Joel Gordon was noted as saying he had several irons in the fire at any given point in time. Now, the forge is out and all irons are back on the shelf. He crossed his bridge from this world to the next in the early morning hours of March 30th, 2014 in Tacoma, Washington. His journey on this plane of existence took him on a sojourn with the United States Army, several turns working as a Journeyman Diesel Mechanic, and an accomplished Long-haul Truck Driver. His occupations only cover a small portion of who he was in this life, though. Along with a love of motorcycles, hot rods, tattoos, Disney movies, and dogs, Joel (known by many friends and family as Gordy) also was a voracious reader of everything. This included theology, westerns, science fiction, fantasy, and political thrillers. He played the cello, but had to give it up in his teens as he was allergic to the rosin. He was a writer of both poetry and prose. Above and beyond everything else he was a dreamer. He is preceded in his journey by his mother, Anna Dorothea Gordon, his father, Robert George Gordon, and his brothers Jerry and Larry Gordon. He is survived by four children; His sons - Kelly Gordon of Columbus, GA; Christopher Gordon of La Grande, CA; Joshua Gordon of Dadeville, AL; one daughter, Dorothea Dunn of Tacoma, WA; and his brother Jack Gordon of Seattle, WA. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, and countless adopted children and grandchildren. A memorial celebration will be held to honor his life on April 13, 2014 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the AmVets Post# 1, 5717 S Tyler St, Tacoma WA. His family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Mary Bridge Childrens Hospital.
