Tribute & Tallent Funeral and Cremations
John Robert Abernethy
January 3rd, 1957 - May 27th, 2022
John Robert Abernethy, 65, born and raised in Charlotte, NC died on May 27th in the peace and comforts of his home from complications of congestive heart failure and diabetes. John grew up in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood where he, his brothers, cousins and many friends all ran around. He was the very first graduate of Providence Day School in 1975. He continued his education at Central Piedmont becoming a technically gifted repairman. He could fix anything electronic but John especially loved installing the latest Pioneer stereo equipment in your car. Later he became a salesman in the electronics and printing industry, exploring his many interests as a chef and later as a specialized chauffer. When John wasnt working, he could usually be found at his homes down by "The River". He loved to ski, swim, cook out or just be hanging out with his many friends enjoying himself. He was a Master Mason of St Andrews Lodge #702, a Shriner and loved a lazy sunny day at the Red Fez Club pool. John absolutely loved being Santa; bringing delighted joy to the kids at the Red Fez Club and elsewhere. Johns path among us in life was as an affable free spirit who was fascinated by good foods, great friends, spirited libations, its natural beauty and wondrous music (especially the band "Yes"). His faith was soundly rooted in a forgiving and loving brand of simple Christianity. It became deeper and more profound as he aged and the result of his several illnesses became more certain. Any person down on his luck had an understanding and kind friend in John Abernethy. He truly had a heart as big as the whole outdoors. We will miss him. John is survived by his son, Christopher John Abernethy, brothers, Ernie (Martha) and David (Susan). He was the uncle of Tommy, Jessi and Mackenzie and cousin to Brad, Jeff, Donna, Kathy and Lee. His family also includes Kevin, Jennifer, Kelly and Mike. He was predeceased by his parents, Sarah and Ernest (Tug) Abernethy and his beloved cousin Jeff.
