John Alan Barnes passed away due to natural causes on Friday, March 25, 2022, in his home in North Charleston, South Carolina at the age of 58. Alan was born on November 30, 1963, in Atlanta, Georgia to Judith Grant and Tracy Barnes. He graduated from UGA in 1986 and went on to graduate from George Mason University School of Law in 1989. He was a gifted attorney and was most recently VP and Corporate Counsel of Sutherland Global Services. He moved to Charleston 3 years ago to be closer to his mother, Judy. He is preceded in death by his oldest son, Grant. He is survived by his children, Allison and James Barnes; his mother, Judith Grant; his father, Tracy Barnes, and his sister, Jodi Whitmore. Alan was a devoted father, caring brother, and loyal friend, whose wonderful sense of humor and spirit lit up a room. Alan valued his relationships and strived to maintain a bond with the many friends he has had throughout his life. He was an avid UGA Bulldog fan and loved his own dawg, Shelby. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, dog, and all those who knew him.
