John B Blumenthal
June 7th, 1925 - April 23rd, 2015
John B. Blumenthal, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend passed away peacefully at his home on April 23, 2015. John began his long and rich life in El Paso, Texas. His father Karl was an entrepreneur and owner of Blumenthal's Fine Men's Clothing and his mother Adeline was a dedicated house wife. At the age of 17 John enlisted in our nations Navy at the height of World War II and served until 1946. After the war he returned to the states and enrolled at Texas Western University. He graduated with an electrical engineering degree in 1949 and soon took his enormous talents and wonderful personality to New Jersey where he began his engineering career with the Bell Laboratories. He was eventually transferred with his growing young family to Albuquerque, where he settled down, raised his family, and became involved in Albuquerque Lodge No. 60 AF and AM. John is preceded in death by his parents Adeline and Karl Blumenthal of El Paso and his son Alan Blumenthal from Mesa. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Glennda C. Blumenthal, daughter Kathy Blumenthal-Shiplet, son Jim Blumenthal of Vail, Co., son in law Michael Shiplet, his grandsons Daniel and Kenneth Freeman, his grandson Michael Blumenthal, his granddaughter Jennifer Blumenthal, grandson Chase Shiplet and granddaughter Casse'. John will be sorely missed by all who knew him and especially by the many people he helped through Albuquerque Lodge No. 60 AF and AM, Grand Lodge of New Mexico for more than 50 years. He was a Master Mason and a member of Montezuma Lodge No. 1 AF and AM. John was instrumental in the Shrines telemed program serving as Chairman from 2011 – 2013. He served as the Recorder Emeritus for the Lodge for many years and was the Alba-A-Kar Captain in 1988. He served as Secretary Treasurer from 1991 – 2003. He served as Hospital Chairman in 1992, served as the Shrine Circus Chairman from 1996 – 1997 and sat on the Board of Directors from 2004 – 2008. John also sat on the Board of Directors for First Financial Credit Union for many years and was proud of his service. His untiring efforts and unselfish efforts at the Shrine led to many children getting the help they so richly deserved. John will always be remembered for his quick wit, warm smile, generosity and contagious laughter. His leadership and friendship will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
