John F. Bonaker

Mr. John F. Bonaker, 64, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. 

John was a loving and caring man who was devoted to his family and many friends. Among his many special gifts was a wonderful singing voice that he shared with his church choir, the Mohawk Valley Chorus, and the Octavo Singers.  

John was an Amsterdam High School graduate, where he was a National Merit Scholar. He earned a degree (Summa Cum Laude) in Microelectronic Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology. John was employed in the field of computer technology until retiring due to health concerns. He was very active in his church. His deep faith sustained him through the years as he had to cope with illness.

John was the son of the late Bernard F. Bonaker Jr., and the late Patricia Keltz Bonaker. He is survived by his loving family: brother David (Patricia) Bonaker of Phenix City, AL, brother Robert (Dawn) Bonaker of the Town of Perth, sister Laura Bonaker of Linwood, NJ, brother James Bonaker of Amsterdam, brother Richard (Lora) Bonaker of Malta; and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his sister Peggy.

A Service of Remembrance for John F. Bonaker will be conducted on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 11:00am at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9 Trinity Place, Amsterdam, NY, with the Rev. Peder Kling officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family from 10:00am – 11:00am at the church prior to the Service of Remembrance.

Private Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to honor John Bonaker may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9 Trinity Place, Amsterdam, NY 12010, or the National Kidney Foundation, 22 Colvin Ave., Albany, NY 12206 (healthykidneys.org).

Heaven must be a better place today with the sounds of the wonderful singing music John Bonaker is bringing up there.
