John Palmer Burg
November 2nd, 1910 - July 19th, 2009
Burg, John Palmer "Doc", 98, of Seminole, Florida passed away on July 19, 2009 at Hospice Woodside. Born November 2, 1910 in Red Lion, PA, he graduated from Red Lion High School, attended Mercersburg Academy, Bucknell University, and received a B.S. and D.D.S. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He practiced dentistry for 50 years in Red Lion where he lived with his wife, Pauline Wilson Burg. John was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his foursome at the York Country Club, where he even had a hole in one on the 207 yard 12th hole. In later years, he pursued his hobbies of collecting antiques and coins. John enjoyed traveling, especially out West to the National Parks. After many visits to Florida to see his son and family, he and Polly moved to Seminole Garden Apartments in 1988 and became snowbirds. John was a 32nd degree Mason, President of the Lion's Club, and Sunday School teacher at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Red Lion. "Doc" had a warm smile, a love for people and a joy for life that won him friends wherever he went. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. John Palmer Burg is survived by Anne Anthony; son, Robert Burg and his wife Billie of Seminole, FL; daughter, Linda Davis and her husband Tom of Saratoga Springs, NY; 4 grandchildren, Andrea DeGeorgio and her husband Paul of Saratoga Springs, NY, Jeannie Gutierrez and her husband Javier of Pasadena, CA, Betsy O'Callaghan and her husband Kenin of Seminole, FL, and Brian Burg and his wife Kathy of Fort Myers, FL; and 10 great grandchildren. They are Liam and Madison DeGeorgio, A.J. and Sam Gutierrez, Ashleigh, Kellie, and Karli O'Callahan, and Samantha, Max, and Brooke Burg. Services will be held on Wednesday, July 29 at Seminole United Methodist Church with viewing at 10:30 and services at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Seminole United Methodist Church, 5400 Seminole Blvd., Seminole, FL 33772.
