John Burton

Mr. (John) Herbert Burton, 91, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Moses Cone Hospital. He and his wife would have celebrated their 70th Wedding anniversary on October 14th. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday at Grace Community Church, 643 W. Lee Street, Greensboro with the Reverend Roy Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Burton owned Burton's Auto Service in Greensboro. He loved Soap Box Derby Racing, the outdoors and his gardens. But most of all he loved his family. Mr. Burton is survived by his loving wife Marceline L. Burton; son, Johnny Burton and wife Debra, of Snead's Ferry; daughters, Barbara Wells and husband James, of Mebane, Jacky Dowd and husband Mark, of Burlington, Jerry Phillips and husband Bob, Janice Burton, all of Greensboro; included in his family are Chuck Smith and wife Kathy, of Jamestown, and Len Peeples and wife Sharon, of Greensboro; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Saturday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Janice Burton, 5571 N Church Street, Greensboro.
