Butler, John Dale 77, of Largo, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Palms of Pasadena Hospital. Born in Fostoria, OH, he came here in 1967 from Indianapolis, IN. He was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean War in the 75th Regimental Combat Team. He was the former owner and operator of the Gold Coffee Shop in downtown St. Petersburg. He was a partner in the real estate firm, Butler-Brand, Inc, in St. Petersburg. After closing the real estate firm, he joined Gulf & Southern Mortgage Brokers. He was a Christian. He was an active member of Northside Lodge # 283 F&AM, the Scottish Rite and Egypt Temple Shrine. He was a Kentucky Colonel of Commonwealth of Kentucky. He was a member of the US Junior Chamber of Commerce and the St. Petersburg Board of Realtors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles S. and Katherine M. Butler and his wife, Helen M. Butler. He is survived by his loving companion, Mary W. Brand of 35 years; his son and daughter-in-law, John D. II and MaryEllen Butler; his daughter and son-in-law, Tamara K. "Tammy" Cooper and John N. Gallant; and two grandsons, Charles Edward Mallette IV and Charles Steven Butler, all of St. Petersburg, FL; In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Tampa, Florida.
