July 10, 1921-March 11, 2010John passed away at the age of 88 years old River Bend Hospital in Springfield Oregon at 10:19 pm due to age related causes.John was born in Alabama, Choctaw County in the town of Brightwater. John moved to Oregon in 1952, then moved to Junction City in 1958 where he resided until the time of his death.John’s parents were Roger Cobb and Ila Johnston. His siblings were one sister, Bonita, also known as Sis and one brother, Mack. John married the love of his life, Lou Ella Fleming in 1941. They were married nearly 60 years before Lou passed away in 2001.He served in the United States Army from July, 1944 until he was honorably discharged in June of 1946. He received the European/African/Middle Eastern (EAME) Campaign Medal, Good conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal.John had a natural curiosity about how things worked and could fix anything. He worked as a machinist and welder at Gulf Shipbuilding Corporation. He worked at Lou Williams Chevrolet in Eugene as an auto mechanic. He also worked on vehicles out of his home. John retired from American Can Company Paper Mill in 1986. He worked as a millwright and retired two years early due to a motor vehicle accident. While in a lot of pain since the accident in 86, his attitude always remained positive. Everyone who knew him always remarked how kind he was. He attended Valley Christian Center in Harrisburg, Oregon. He considered the congregation an extension of his family. This was evident with the many friends who stood at his bedside along with family during his final days. I would like to mention Ella McCall, LaRetta Jones, and Alice Hildebrand. They were very special to him.He loved to garden and loved to cook. He had the best tomatoes in the valley. He was very frugal having lived through the great depression. He knew how to make due.His surviving family members include his only child, son Preston Bruce Cobb, his wife, Nancy Lee Cobb who reside in Sweet Home, Oregon. Granddaughter Stephanie Leffler, and husband, Gary Leffler, great grandchildren, Ashley and Amber Murray who all reside in Lebanon, Oregon.A viewing will be held at Murphey Musgrove Funeral Home on Friday March 19th from 3 pm to 7 pm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 3rd at Valley Christian Center in Harrisburg Oregon at 12:00 pm. Food and refreshments following the memorial service.
