John Jay Colpitts

John Colpitts was born in Arvada, Colorado on May 5, 1955 and passed away at Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley on May 26, 2021. John grew up in Arvada and graduated from Arvada Senior High School in 1973. He attended the University of Northern Colorado and Colorado State University, majoring in Geology and had been a resident of Greeley for 48 years. John is survived by his brother, William (Ann) of Loveland, and niece, Abigail, of Fort Collins and niece, Ellen, of Monument. John is preceded in death by his parents, Everett Marshall Jr. and Janice Jay, who lived in Arvada. John is also survived by a number of dear friends who have known him since his college days. After college, John discovered his desire and special skill for finish carpentry work which he enjoyed for many years. He especially liked to spend time camping and socializing with friends. He is known for his fondness for old Jeeps, riding his motorcycle, traveling in his motorhome, reading books, and his attachment to special pet cats and dogs, particularly his lab, Samantha. Special thanks are due to Mike and Petra Gore for their personal support of John over the years. We know the late-night phone calls you responded to and the meals you prepared for John helped him manage through difficult times. Words cannot express our appreciation for going above and beyond the call of duty to help him. A memorial service will be held for John in June. Please contact [email protected] with questions.
