John "Jack" Francis Courtney
June 10th, 1989 - January 9th, 2021
John “Jack” Francis Courtney June 10, 1989 - January 9, 2021 A lifelong Florida native, Jack loved people, animals, and the world around him. He graduated St. Petersburg HS 2007 and earned a BA in Psychology and Environmental Studies in 2012 at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, where he lived until 2016 when he returned to his St. Petersburg home. Wherever he was, Jack loved having a four-legged, furry companion by his side. In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Jack lived in nature, fully and with his whole heart. He loved the water, fishing, swimming, surfing, and said the key to a happy life was spending more time wet than dry. Jack loved all adventures in the outdoors and was always looking to see what was around the next bend in the trail, hiking, camping, and just gazing up at the stars. Nothing in nature lives for itself and this was true of Jack. His energy and adventurous spirit drew others to him, and Jack’s humor and infectious smile could brighten any room. A candle does not shine for itself, only to give light to others. Jack was always there for the people in his life. He was a light, beloved by his family and many friends for his genuine warmth and compassion. His open heart welcomed his friends as family, and his loyalty and grace held the circle together. Still, “All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was.” Jack’s pure heart and charisma were not enough to keep him with us. He passed from this Earth on January 9th, 2021, forever surrounded by the love of his family. Jack was predeceased by grandparents John and Maureen Courtney, John and Maxine Fenyk, and his aunt Sharon Fenyk. He is survived by his parents Frank Courtney and Cynthia Fenyk, sister Marin Kirwin, brother-in-law Patrick Kirwin, and niece Mayla Kirwin. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles Rosemary and Paul Dillingham, John and Dianne Fenyk, Mickey and Mitch Fenyk-King, Judy and David Fenyk-Melody, and Mark Fenyk. He is also survived by his cousins Leah, Grace, and Paul III Dillingham, Heather, Alex, and Maya Fenyk, Julie, Todd, Sofie, and Sage Fenyk, Austin and Dylan Melody, and Faith Fenyk. Memorial services will be held at a later date (due to covid). In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to your favorite charity.
