Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel - Payette
John Robert Cushman
February 17th, 1995 - July 19th, 2017
John Robert Cushman, of New Plymouth, ID, died July 19, 2017 as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was born February 17, 1995, in Nampa, ID, the son of Gary and Mona Cushman. He attended New Plymouth High School where he graduated in 2013. He was currently enrolled in Treasure Valley Community College pursuing his dream of becoming a veterinarian. John was a surprise but one of the family's biggest blessings. He was a cowboy from birth, intelligent beyond his years, and destined to become a cattle rancher. His growing up years were filled with horses, roping, hunting, and registered Hereford cattle. He played football at New Plymouth, and his senior year he was All-Star offensive tackle and All-State defensive tackle. Physically and emotionally he blossomed during this time and was a Man among Men with his 6'5" frame and 250 pounds. His large frame held a heart just as great, and he was a friend and helper to everyone who knew him or was in need. He chose not to pursue college football at The College of Idaho but to take steps toward his dream of becoming a veterinarian. He therefore was living at home, going to school, and working with his beloved friend and mentor Dr. Robert Derby. His work ethic was paying off with the growth of his cattle herd. With the help of his buddy Ron Hendrickson he was well on his way to his own custom hay business. His word was his bond, a handshake still meant something, and his character and integrity were unparalleled. John and his mother had a very special relationship, and she could not have asked for a better son, friend, and partner. She will work to carry on his dream, but the hole he left in everyone's life with his early passing will forever remain. John we love you. He is survived by his parents, Gary and Mona Cushman; sisters, Carol Cushman and Sarah Cushman Miles (Ben); grandmothers, Tonya Pearson and Patty Cushman; aunt, Dr. Tammy Hill; uncles, Mike Cushman and Todd Cushman; three nephews and two nieces; and numerous cousins. John is preceded in death by his brother, Adam Cushman, his grandparents, Robert Pearson and Delora Miller and Gene Cushman and Donna Trumble; and uncle, Roger Cushman and aunt Cathy Allman. There will be a viewing held on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 5 pm until 7 pm at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel in New Plymouth. The funeral service will be Saturday, July 22 at 11 am in the New Plymouth High School Multipurpose Room. John will be laid to rest thereafter at the Hagerman Valley Cemetery, Hagerman, ID.
