John R. DePhillips

John R. DePhillips, "Johnny D", 66, of Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, August 31, 2013 at his summer home in Broadalbin, NY. Born in Martinez, CA on August 2, 1947, a son of the late Dominick and Stella Glavaris DeMaria. John was a lifelong area resident and was a 1966 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. John was a successful entrepreneur for many years in New York City and came back to Amsterdam due to ill health in 1992. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a communicant of the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He is survived by his loving significant other, Neicey Gentile of Amsterdam, NY. One daughter, Camile DePhillips of Illinois and one son, Giovanni R. DePhillips of New York City. One brother, Jerry DeMaria of Amsterdam. A beloved grandson, Tristan Michael DePhillips of Illinois. A Special nephew, Trent DeMaria. His dear pet dog, Giuseppe. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. John was recently predeceased by his dear sister, Teresa Bottisti on February 5, 2013, a brother, Michael DeMaria and his daughter Stella Gianna DePhillips. John will be remembered for his love of others and his love for animals. He will be missed by all who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 11:15A.M. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, John St. in Amsterdam with Father Pascal "Pat" Iannotti as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County S.P.C.A. P.O. Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
