John Charles Dowdy
September 23rd, 1946 - October 9th, 2016
John Charles Dowdy, known as Chuck Dowdy, passed away on Sunday, October 9 at Novant Presbyterian Medical Center following a massive stroke on October 7. Chuck was born September 23, 1946 in Charlotte and grew up on Ivey Drive. He lived most of his adult life in Monroe, NC. In 1964 Chuck graduated from Garinger HS. He then attended and graduated from Western Carolina University with a B.S. Degree in Marketing. Chuck had a strong work ethic and was a conscientious, diligent worker his entire life. He worked for many years at Hendrick Lexus Charlotte and was currently employed by Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac in Monroe. Chuck was predeceased by his parents, Ellen Holton Dowdy and William Otis Dowdy, and by his son, Jonathan Dowdy. Chuck is survived by his wife, Tina, stepson, Zachary and mother-in-law, Helen Flowe, and by his daughter, Anna Dowdy and her mother and stepfather, Michelle and Don Hall, all of Monroe; by his daughter, Tara Williams of Greensboro; by two grandchildren; and two sisters, Jane Pressley and her husband, Robert, of Charlotte, and Vicki Leary and her husband, Guy, of Hendersonville, NC. Chuck is also survived by sisters and brothers in law, and nieces and nephews. Chuck enjoyed a multitude of friends, neighbors and co-workers. It would be remiss not to recognize his beloved dog, Teddy, his faithful companion and friend. Chuck was a strong Christian man and an active member of his church, The Sanctuary, for more than 25 years. He was a member of the church choir at one time and especially enjoyed the fellowship at the 5th Sunday socials. Chuck was especially noted for his wit and good natured bantering with his fellow congregants. In his spare time, Chuck immensely enjoyed working with his flowers and vegetables in his garden and yard. He definitely had the proverbial "green thumb." Chuck was an avid Panther fan and enjoyed rooting for the Clemson Tigers. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Chuck Dowdy will be held on Saturday, October 15 at 4 PM at his church, The Sanctuary , located at 210 Indian Trail Road, N, Indian Trail, NC 28079 The service will be officiated by his friend and minister, Arlen Smith, Th. D. The family will receive friends at 3:30 PM prior to the service.
