John W. Fairbanks, husband of the late Betty L. Fairbanks died peacefully, Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. John was born in Hixson, TN on February 15, 1942. He was the son of the late Dewitt and Hattie Irene Fairbanks. John leaves to cherish his memory his only daughter, Debbie Williams (Scott) of South Congaree, and the loves of his life, his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who affectionately called him “PA”. Grandchildren include April Lutz (Jacob), John “JW” Williams (Emily), Lee Williams (Kristi), and Betsy Bouknight (Chip); great grandchildren; Jackson Day, Remington Lutz, Memphis Lutz, Penelope Williams, Haylee Williams, Holden Williams, Hannah Williams, Devin Koellner, Riley Koellner, Cassidie Steen, Grayson Steen, Garrett Steen, and Carson Hollis. He is also survived by his siblings, Mildren Irwin of Soddy Daisy, TN, Murl Layne of Hixson, TN, Glenn “Arvle” Fairbanks (Lisa) of Soddy Daisy, Diann Waldron (Charlie) of Dayton, OH, Vivian Dunn of Hodgenville, KY, and Tommie Curtis (Wayne) of Hixson, TN, nieces and nephews abound. John worked in construction most of his life, and also moonlighted as a police officer for 10 years at the Hamilton County Sheriff's Dept. His construction career brought him to SC where he worked for Sox & Son Construction, until a family member opened a pool business where his construction expertise came in full effect. During this time, he liked to help his son-in-law by learning the electrical field. His many careers earned him the name “Dabbler”. John loved to work, but he also had a love for drag racing, fishing, yard work, and building just about anything. He enjoyed his days becoming a Mason and a Shriner. He truly loved giving back to his community and serving others. Even though John was a jack of all trades, his greatest love was his family. He retired to take care of his wife of 61 years, and continued this loving act until her passing. His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice nurses and caregivers of MSA Home Health Hospice. They could not have asked for better support and care during John’s final days. A celebration of life will be held at Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church, 501 Church Street, West Columbia, SC on Saturday, August 14, 2021. Visitation with the family will be 4 PM with the service to start at 5 PM. South Carolina Cremation Society of West Columbia is assisting the family.
