John Allen Figler - Age 82 of Lakewood Colorado Died December 23, 2014. John was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 31, 1932 to John Joseph and Ethel Anne (nee Mohler) Figler. John spent his childhood years in the Cleveland area, moving to Indiana when he was a young man. John came west to Nebraska and Colorado as a teenager, and always considered Colorado his true home. John met Patricia (Cossey) in Nebraska and they were married in 1952. John married Karene †˜Keenie†™ (McMaster) in 1965, and they raised their family in Lakewood, Colorado. John and Keenie raised their own children and gave shelter and love to many more who called their house †˜home†™ and considered them parents. John, together with Keenie, believed in giving young people the support and love needed to achieve their greatest potential. John was adamant about giving young people the security of somewhere to shed hardships and have an advocate to cheer their successes. John loved supporting his kids and grandkids at their performances, sporting events, and other milestones. He also loved sharing his interests with his family and friends. Kids, grandkids, and friends, all enjoyed many weekends fishing, camping, rafting, hiking, going to parades, festivals, dances, and fairs with John. Most any weekend, particularly in summer, you could count on John having plans to do something fun, and any were welcome along. John felt strongly about working hard to make a life for his family and others who depended on him. He worked his entire adult life, until he was 79 years-old. He worked in printing for many years, at Associated Grocers, Kistler Graphics and Colorado Container Corporation. After decades of running printing plants for others, John wanted to build his own business. With the support of Keenie, his children and many friends, he built a mobile catering business, a second career that spanned decades also. After †œretiring†, John built yet another business, providing fire protection equipment to businesses all around the metro area and the front-range mountain counties. John always felt strongly about using his resources to help those organizations that help others. He spent a great deal of his free-time volunteering or donating to those causes that touched his heart. From teaching printing to the inmates in Buena Vista to interviewing candidates for scholarships; providing food to the homeless and fire extinguishers to churches, lodges, and organizations, there wasn†™t a time when he wasn†™t involved in something charitable. He was a Master Mason, raised at Central Lodge #6 in Central City, Colorado, also a member Denver #5 and Blackhawk #11. He served as Worshipful Master of Central Lodge in 2000. John is survived by his children; Johnnie Lee Figler, Linda †˜Elle†™ Figler, Scott Figler, Michael John Figler, Christine Boulet (Kirk) and Amy Goings (Randy) as well as those he had a hand in raising; Marie-Christine Scelle, Janneke Litjens, Alberto Pedroso, Jr., Sage Joshua Figler (Michelle), Jared Smith (Karyn) and his grandchildren; Talai Franz, Quanah Franz (Claire), Scott A.
