" South Hadley, John J. Foley, 59, of Woodbridge St., died Tuesday, Jan. 27 at home. Born in Holyoke, July 30, 1944, he was the son of the late Michael F. Foley, Sr., (1985) and Rose J. (Gilmartin) Foley (2003). Mr. Foley was a former resident of the Fairview section of Chicopee before moving to S. Hadley in 2001. He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Chicopee Falls and a member of the Chicopee St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee. Jack held a Masters Degree in Education and was a teacher in the Chicopee School System for 37 years before his retirement in 2002. He was active with the Teacher’s Association there, a voting member for the Mass. Teacher’s Association, as well as a member of the National Educational Association for many years. Jack served as Chairman of Ward 9 Democratic Committee for many years and was a member of the State Democratic Committee. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #4044. Mr. Foley is survived by his wife of 35 years, the former Jean Furnelli, two sons, Sean and his wife, Sarah, of Middlefield, and Timothy and his wife, Lisa, of Chicopee, along with a sister Patricia Fenton of S. Hadley, and a brother Dr. Gerald Foley and his wife Irene of Chicopee. Jack also leaves his four grandchildren, Brennan, Lauren, Jonathan, and Michael, along with many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Foley was predeceased by a brother, Professor Michael F. Foley, Jr. in 1984. Funeral services will be Friday, January 30 at 9:30 a.m. from the Beers & Story S. Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton Street (Rte 116), followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, Chicopee. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chicopee. Calling hours are Thursday from 2:00—4:00 and 7:00—9:00 p.m. Please make donations in Mr. Foley's memory to either Covenant House, 346 West 17th Street, NY, NY, 10011-5002, or to Hospice Life Care, 28 Appleton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040."
