John Gall

John Uhl Gall, of Pacific Grove, California died of a sudden heart attack on March 25, 2016. He was in one of his favorite spots, sitting in his car by the ocean’s edge, reading a book. John was born May 9, 1928, to LaRue (Uhl) and Herbert Gall on a ranch in Rivera, California. As a kid, he worked at Rivera Market in the meat department and considered himself quite an authority on meat. His family later moved to Whittier, California. John married his wife, Marian Stevenson, on June 16, 1951. They moved to Whittier shortly after their first son was born in 1953. John graduated from the University of Missouri where he pledged Phi Kappa Psi. He continued his education at UCLA Law School graduating in 1953. John practiced law for 60 years, many of them in partnership with his father. John was a 40-year member and past president of Hacienda Country Club in La Habra, California. He joined Spyglass Hill in Pebble Beach, California in 1972 and was a member there until the closing of the Founder’s Club earlier this year. He was also a member of Monterey Peninsula Country Club since 1983. John had an incredible passion for the game, loved to compete, and had five holes-in-one throughout his golfing career. John was preceded in death by his parents, La Rue and Herbert Gall, his sister, Jane, brother-in-law Russell, and three nephews. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 65 years, Marian Gall, three children, Chuck (Teresa) Gall, Nancy (John) Holte, Steve (Betsy) Gall, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, March 31 at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club Beach House, 3000 Club Dr., Pebble Beach. The service will be from 3:30 – 5:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Boys and Girls Club of Monterey County, or a charity of your choice. Service Information
