John Wesley Gargis, Jr

John Wesley Gargis, Jr peacefully passed away at the home of his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Wesley Pickens (Patty) on Sunday, May 22, in Orangeburg, SC after a decline in health and under the care of Hospice. He was born on June 30, 1933 to Ellen Whitaker Gargis and John Wesley Gargis, Sr. After serving in the Navy, JW was a transporter for many years, until retirement, in Raleigh, NC. JW had one granddaughter, Mrs. Kelly Coleman Oswald, her husband Jamie, and 2 great grandchildren, Coleman and Ann Marie Oswald. He leaves behind his 3 sisters, Deborah, Ruby and Dale along with many nieces and nephews in NC where he was born and raised. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, CB and Donald. He will be honored with a memorial service at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC. Memorials may be sent to St. Andrews UMC Shepard Ministry. 1980 Columbia Road Orangeburg, SC 29115 This is a place dear to JW as he was honored to help and serve in the soup kitchen. The family would like to thank Lexington Medical Center, Floor 8, for the phenomenal care and patience they demonstrated to him. Amedisys Hospice was a tremendous help as well in the final stages of his life. Specifically, we want to thank Melody, Patrick, Diane, Genesis and Tonya for the around the clock care. He will be greatly missed.
