John P. 'Dutchie' Gethin Formerly of Boston and Marlboro, MA and Fort Worth, TX died in Merritt Island, FL on September 25th. Born January 19, 1918 in Boston, MA he was the loving husband of the late Margaret 'Peg' Gethin. He is survived by daughters Mary Bell of Cocoa Beach, FL, Ann (Nancy) Brooks and husband Jim of Arlington, TX; sons John and wife Patti of San Diego, CA, Michael and wife Betsy of Cape Cod, MA and Neil of Cocoa Beach, FL. He is brother of Mary Kelly of West Roxbury, MA, Mike Gethin of Quincy, MA and the late Tom Gethin of Roxbury, MA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.John served in World War II and was past Commander, American Legion Post 327,Boston's Mission Hill. He worked in the brewery business with Haffenreffer, Carling and Miller before retiring to Cocoa Beach. He served on the condo board at his home in Villa Vista and enjoyed helping his neighbors. Funeral mass will be 10:30 am Wednesday, October 1st at Our Savior Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in John's name to Alzheimer's Association (alz.org).
