John T. Hames

John T. Hames, 87, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023 at ShorePoint Health in Port Charlotte. Mr. Hames was born December 29, 1935 in Shelby, North Carolina to Broughton U. and Ruth (Justice) Hames. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56, years Hazel Hames. Mr. Hames is survived by three loving children. Daughter, Debi (Ed) Louisville KY and two sons John (Donna), Palm Bay FL and Timothy A. Port Charlotte, FL, as well as grandchildren, Erin (Nathan) Guthrie, John T. (Mackenzie) Hames III, Michael Longfellow, Ian Hames and great-grandchild Maddox Guthrie. Mr. Hames was a 23 year U.S. Air Force veteran. He proudly served as a Flight Steward, on Air Force One (for Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Ford). After retiring from the USAF, he started a second career in the hospitality industry. Mr. Hames was a member of Pilgrim Church, United Church of Christ of Port Charlotte. Visitation will be held between 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, located at 9400 Indian Springs Cemetery Rd., Punta Gorda Fl 33950. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 16 at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 16 at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota.
