John Lee Hammon was born in San Francisco on June 14, 1930 to Wendell C Hammon and Lola Lee Hammon. He attended San Francisco elementary schools and graduated from Lowell High School in 1948. Upon graduating from High School, he entered the U.S. Navy. His four years in the Navy were spent in the South Pacific, Korea and Alaska. After his honorable discharged from the Navy in 1952, he enrolled at Cal Poly University, San Luis Obispo campus for his college education, graduating in 1956. John studied entomology and had a long career in the field of Agriculture. While working for Niagara Chemical Company he was transferred to Gridley, where he later worked for the Red Top Rice Growers as their field man for many years. John was a member of the Masonic North Butte Lodge for 50 years, the Mayflower Society, and he and Roberta were very active in the Butte County Historical Society. John retired in 1996, when he and Roberta moved to the foothills of Butte County. His past times included hunting, fishing with friends and his sons, and woodworking. John is survived by his wife Roberta R. Hammon, his three sons, Tom (Karen), Spencer (Sheila) and Marshall (Marsi), as well as four grandchildren, Niklas, Kristofer, Jane and Joshua. He is also survived by his brother David Hammon. A Masonic Ceremony will be held for John on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 2:00 at the Gridley Masonic Lodge.
