John "Jack" Raymond Hand

December 7th, 1929 - August 21st, 2024

John “Jack” Hand, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Vitas Hospice.  Jack was born December 7, 1929, in Bronx, New York to John Leo and Christine Therese (Biedenweg) Hand. He was a kind and generous man with a contagious smile.

In 1956, Jack joined the Army and after serving 6 years, he switched over to the Air Force where he proudly served another 14 years.  In 1965, he married Srirat (Jaiyaqam), whom he met in Bangkok, Thailand while being stationed in Vietnam.  In 1967, they welcomed their daughter, Theresa.  While in the Air Force, they were stationed in Germany, Taiwan, Colorado, Italy, Idaho and Indiana.  He fondly told stories of all the adventures they had while in the service.  He served proudly and could always be seen wearing his Vietnam Veteran hat.

After Jack retired from the Air Force he worked as a Mail Handler for the United States Postal Service until he retired in 1998.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife, twin sons (Patrick and Charles), his brother (Bill) and sister (Pat).  He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Theresa and her husband Jack, his brother, Donnie Hand (Lynn), sister, Dee Dee Wonder (Mike), sister-in-law Archara Mark (Michael). He will also be missed by extended family members and friends he lovingly thought of as his family.

The family is truly grateful to Dr. Yanging Gu, who provided such amazing care to Jack the past few years.  The family is also extremely appreciative to the staff at Melbourne Terrace.  They showed him such love and compassion.  He found joy sharing his stories with everyone, going to Bingo and just being loved.

Services will take place at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church on Friday, September 13th.  Visitation begins at 1:30pm and Mass begins at 2:00pm.  A reception will follow in the Community Room. His cremains will be buried on Friday, September 20th at Cape Canaveral National Cemetary.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society (Holy Name of Jesus) or any charity of your choice.
