Simplicity: Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services - Bluffton
John "(Terry)" Terrence Hoffmann
January 1st, 1942 - March 9th, 2024
John Terrence Hoffmann (Terry) of Bluffton, South Carolina passed away on March 9, 2024 after a valiant fight from blood cancer. Terry was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 1, 1942, to his parents, John S. Hoffmann and Katherine Nordman Hoffmann. He attended the Holy Rosary schools from elementary grade through high school in Columbus, OH where he graduated in 1960. After graduation, Terry apprenticed as an electrician and worked as an electrician in the Columbus area for two years. Terry then decided to attend college and graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in accounting in December of 1966 and later worked for Coopers & Lybrand Accounting Firm. A few years after college, Terry joined the military where he enlisted in the Air National Guard of Ohio. He was activated due to the Pueblo incident in North Korea. Terry was sent to Korea to the Koonsian Air Force base where he worked as an electrician for the military. Terry was honorably discharged in December of 1970. Terry was a loving father of two children, Barbara Hoffmann of Columbus, OH and Kelly Hoffmann Watts, wife of Greg Watts of Columbus, OH., Terry was also cherished by his 2 grandchildren; Jared Barker and Gabe Watts. Terry will be missed by his two brothers and sister, Dan Hoffman and his wife, Judy, Marilyn Sells and her husband, Dick, and David Hoffmann and his wife, Amber. Terry also had many nieces and nephews: Scott, Katie, and Sean Hoffmann, Jessica Sells, and John, Michael, and Austin Hoffmann. When Terry moved to Hilton Head 22 years ago, he started playing tennis and walking on the beach along with doing taxes during the spring. He then got involved in the Big Ten Football Organization on Hilton Head where he served as treasurer of that group for many years. Terry just loved Ohio State football, and everything associated with it. Terry will be remembered most for his outgoing, friendly manner, his positive attitude, along with his keen sense of humor. He was a lifelong lover of airplanes and became an airplane pilot during the 1970’s. Terry was also an active member at the Country Club of Hilton Head where he played USTA tennis as well and regular social play with his friends. May Terry rest in peace and may the rest of the family be consoled by all he did, and by the esteem in which Terry was and is held by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held at the South Carolina Yacht Club on Saturday, April 13, from 3 to 6 PM. There will be an honor guard coming to play taps and present Terry’s family with a flag. Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.
