Louise Marie Schmidt

August 1st, 1935 - July 24th, 2024

Louise Marie Schmidt and John Schmidt Jr.

Louise Marie Schmidt, 88, passed away on July 24, 2024, and John Schmidt Jr., 91, passed away on August 1, 2024, at their home outside LaSalle, Colorado. Louise was born on August 1, 1935, to Ruben and Marie (Bruntz) Alles.  John was born January 30, 1933, to John and Mary (Reidel) Schmidt.

Both grew up and lived in Weld County their entire lives.  John and Louise first met as children when John winked at Louise across the room and Louise winked back.  Eleven years later, John and Louise were married on November 1, 1953, at St. Paul’s Congregational Church, where they were lifelong members.

Shortly after their wedding, John left for boot camp at Fort Ord, California.  John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, and was stationed in Mannheim, Germany.  In 1959, John and Louise purchased Rolling Elms Farm east of LaSalle, Colorado.  Louise managed the dairy operation and John managed the farm.  John loved farming and insisted on working well into his 80’s. John also worked the winter night shift for 15 years at the Great Western Sugar Company.

In between milking twice a day, Louise enjoyed gardening, crocheting, embroidering, reading, and baking.  John enjoyed singing in the church choir, putting together puzzles, and watching baseball.  Both John and Louise were known for their unwavering work ethic, generosity, integrity, and dedication to each other and their family.  Their Christian faith was the foundation of their 70-year marriage, and saw them through the tough times, as well as enriching the good times.

John and Louise are survived by their children, Dianna (Kevin) Billings, Terrie (Greg) Langham, and Daniel (Alyce) Schmidt; grandchildren, Gretchen (Cody) Grooms, Shane (Jordan) Billings, Patrick (Mandy) Billings, John (Ella) Cooke, Rachel (Colin) Quinn, Jacob Schmidt, and Amber (Brandon) Elsbury; and 12 great grandchildren, John and Katie Cooke, Robbie Billings, Asher Grooms, Allie and Dustin Billings, Alex and Lorelei Schmidt, Skyler Wallace Pagnotta, and Jasper, Rylee and Hunter Schmidt; and Louise’s sibling’s, Helen (Frances) Pupe, and Becky (Glenn) Badley.

Thank you to the staff of Home Instead, and all nursing staff of Accent Care for their loving care of John and Louise.
