Johnny is survived by his wife of 42 years, Teruko Jung, two daughters, Sumiko Dowling and Mariko Deal, grandson, Kenneth Breed, his wife Ashley and two great grandsons, Jeremiah and Isaiah. Johnny came to Greensboro from his birth place of Norfolk, Virginia to work in the kitchen of his cousin's restaurant the "Lotus" in the late 30's. The "Lotus", originally located on South Greene Street and opened in the 1920's was Greensboro's first Chinese restaurant. While serving during World War II he received both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After the war he returned to his home town of Norfolk for a brief time until resettling in Greensboro. After returning to Greensboro Johnny along with his sisters helped start Greensboro's second Chinese restaurant aptly named Jung's Chinese American Restaurant first located at East Bessemer Avenue and English Street and later relocated on North Church Street where the Fisher Park Law Building now stands. During the last months of his life Johnny received in home services and care from both the Veterans Administration and Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro. The family wishes to thank both agencies for the outstanding care that Johnny received during the twilight of his life. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:00 pm. They have been entrusted to and will be held at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, 27405. Johnny will be deeply missed by all who came in contact with him during his full and rewarding life.
