Holyoke-John S. Kwiatkowski, 63, passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 14, 2023. He was the son of Leon and Mieczyslawa (Szymanski) Kwiatkowski Szlachta, born February 10, 1960 in Holyoke. John grew up in Holyoke and his father passed away when John was very young. He was raised by his grandparents, Stefan and Stefania Szymanski. John attended Mater Dolorosa School, graduated from Holyoke Catholic High School in 1978, and studied at Southeastern. He was a gifted artist, history buff, fan of Napoleon Bonaparte, and knowledgeable in old movies. John was predeceased by his parents, his step-father Jozef Szlachta, and his brother, Henry J., in 2014. His memory will forever remain with his sister, Wanda and her husband Don Muller of Hadley; brother, Barry Kwiatkowski of Chicopee; nephews, Aaron Muller, Peter (Victoria) Muller, and Ben (Rachel) Kwiatkowski; niece, Molly Kwiatkowski; great-niece, Emily, and great-nephew, Jax; as well as step-siblings and cousins. A graveside service and private burial will take place at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery at a future date. Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Donations may be made in his memory to the Polish Center of Discovery and Learning in Chicopee or to any art-related charities of your choice.
