John Sinclair Lindstrom, 85, of St. Petersburg Beach Florida, passed quietly at the Suncoast Hospice Woodside facility on August 29, 2011. He was born in St. Petersburg on February 16, 1926 to Ester and Algot "Lindy" Lindstrom. He is survived by his two children, daughter, Laura Ann Lindstrom-Croop, and his son Eric John Lindstrom of Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Hoskins of Lexington, Kentucky. His wife Jacqueline Wiggin-Lindstrom preceded him in death in 1988. A 1944 graduate of St. Petersburg High School, John served two years as staff sergeant with the 102nd Ozarks Replacement Division/ 227th Army Postal Unit 3rd Army during World War II. Upon his return he attended St. Petersburg Junior College, and then matriculated to Northwestern University in Chicago graduating with a Bachelor of Sciences degree. Upon graduation John then returned to Europe to work with the Christian Reconstruction programs and helped with the reconstruction efforts in Austria, Italy, France and Germany following the war. After his return he continued his studies at Northwestern University and graduated in 1954 with a Doctorate of Dental Science degree. Dr. Lindstrom then returned to St. Petersburg and opened his first practice on Central Avenue in 1955. Later, he moved his practice to a new building on 1st Avenue North where he maintained his office until his retirement in 1989. John was active in the community and was one of the early members who aided in the establishment of the classes at the Tomlinson Vocational School that later became the St. Petersburg Junior College School for Dental Hygiene. He was also a founding member of the Evening Sertoma Club and was a member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club for over fifty-years. John had an interest in the arts for his entire life and served as an organist in the army. He continued to be active among musical circles and was a long time supporter of The Florida Orchestra, St. Petersburg Opera, Organ Historical Society (OHS), and the American Theater Organ Society (ATOS). In addition to music, he loved Asian art, architecture, to travel, play tennis and bridge. He supported the American Stage Theatre Company and traveled on many of their trips with friends and family. He was current Treasurer of Parents and Friends of Gays and Lesbians (PFLAG) and a current board member of the Fan Association of North America (FANA). A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Sunday October 16 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, Water Front Room. Memorial donations may be made to the Florida Orchestra, The St. Petersburg Museum of History or Suncoast Hospice.
