John Q. Lowry, Jr., 83, husband of Veronica C. Cunningham Lowry, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 27, 2024. He was born in Lexington, KY on October 15, 1940, to the late Dorothy Floyd and John Quentin Lowry, Sr. (WWII Veteran, European Theatre) He was a graduate of Henry Clay high school and held a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Biology and Chemistry, where he also was a member of the track team. John had worked for the University of Kentucky in cancer research, then as the Director of Hazardous Materials Management and Environmental Health, retiring after 36 years.; he was awarded the title of Staff Emeritus. John was also a retired veteran of the United States Army with 24 years of service. In addition to his wife, Veronica, of 58.5 years, those left to cherish his memory include his sons, John Q. (Kristi) Lowry, III., Mark Lowry; grandchildren, Aiden and Gavin; and cousins, Raymond Lowry, Jr., Debbie Lowry, Judy Dart, and Patricia Lowry, all of Houston, TX. Graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 1:30pm at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville, KY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or any local VFW.
