John V. Marian
January 22nd, 1931 - January 3rd, 2024
JOHN V. MARIAN John V.Marian died in Tucson, Arizona, on January 3, 2024. He was born on January 22, 1931, to Michael and Elena, first generation Americans from Romania. His parents, along with brother, Michael, and sister, Aurelia, are deceased. John graduated with a degree in Accounting from Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1953. He immediately went to work at The Marian Bank, founded in 1915 by his father in the historic Northern Liberties community in Philadelphia. In addition, he received an Army ROTC commission as a Finance and Accounting officer. In 1954, John married Frances Arcay. Within weeks of the wedding, John and Fran moved to Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana, where John spent two years teaching Army accounting. With active military service completed, he and Fran moved back to Philadelphia. He rejoined his brother and father at The Marian Bank. They purchased their first home and over the next four years the family expanded: James, born in 1957, and Jeffrey, born in 1961. In 1976, The Marian Bank was sold, ending John's 20 years in commercial banking in Philadelphia. The following year, John and Fran moved to Tucson, Arizona. In short order, John found work with Valley National Bank, where he became vice president and manager of the main branch. Additionally, John served as a Loaned Executive and board member of the United Way of Greater Tucson, a board member of the Tucson Trade Bureau, and a member of the Sunshine Kiwanis Club. John was a loving and supportive husband, an encouraging and thoughtful father, and a good friend. He is survived by his wife, Fran, sons , James (Mary) and Jeffrey (Nancy); grandchildren, Scott (Amelie), Brittney (Alex), Michael, Jacob, Evan; and great grandchildren, James and Ellie. A Celebration of Life service for John will be held on Monday January 15 at 11:00am with a reception to follow at Casas Adobes Congregational/UCC Church in Tucson. In Lieu of flowers the family invites anyone interested to make a donation to the Parish Nurse Endowment Fund at Casas Adobes. This reflects the loving support Fran and her family received during this time of loss. Checks can be made out to CAUCC with the name “John Marian” in the memo section.
