John I. Matson
May 31st, 1942 - February 15th, 2016
Matson, John I., 73, of St. Petersburg, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 15, 2016. He was born in Marshfield, WI to Lyle and Medona Matson and moved to St. Petersburg in 1972. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve at the National Naval Medical Center where he managed cardiac cath labs. He worked in the Marshfield Clinic, Bayfront Medical Center, Cords Medical, American Optical Medical division in Boston, ICR in New York, Critikon (J&J Co.), Arvida Realty, and finished his career with Zefon International in St. Petersburg. John loved to volunteer. He served on homeowners' boards and was Outstanding Jaycee of WI. John was a member of the N.E. Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and elder. He was a member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and a member of the Vinoy where he enjoyed tennis. Most importantly, John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons, Jim (Annie) Matson of St. Petersburg and Randy Matson of Largo, FL; a step-daughter, Michele (Vince) Diller of West Palm Beach, FL; a step-son, Richard (Amie) Painter of Windermere, FL; brother, Dick (Yvette) Matson, two sisters, Sherry (Ron) Poppe and Kim Deal, all of Washington State; nine granchildren, Andrew Matson, Jeremy Matson, Danielle Matson, Zachary Matson, Brittany Matson, all of St. Petersburg and Casper Diller, Jayden Diller, Peyton Diller and Robert Diller, all of West Palm Beach. He was predeceased by his first wife, Gail. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to N.E. Presbyterian Church, 4400 Shore Acres Blvd NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33703.
