John Gilbert Matthews

Death and Memorial Notice John Gilbert Matthews August 13, 1930 to January 23, 2013 John G. Matthews was born in Port Angeles to Argalus Harmon and Florence (Campbell) Matthews. At an early age of 12 he was interested in electronics. He had his own “radio shack” which was attached to the garage of his home. There he would build crystal radios and fix other electronic devices. John served in the Navy, joining in his early teens. He met his beautiful wife, Elizabeth Angela Dougherty. They married on October 3rd, 1953. He worked at Bessy’s repairing electronic devices, TVs, radios, etc. Two children, a girl and a boy were born. He got a job at Boeing in Seattle. A third child, a boy was born. He then moved his family to Seattle. In 1970, he started his own business, Matthews TV and Radio Repair. Electronics is something he liked to do. He enjoyed visiting with his customers, and they him. He loved the outdoors and would take his family hiking and fishing any weekend he got a chance. He greatly enjoyed his family. He loved being with his wife, kids, and grandkids. We had many family gatherings. He lost his battle with Alzheimer’s disease and passed away quietly and peacefully with family present on January 23, 2013. John is survived by his sister and son-in-law Shirley and Ed Dalgardno, sisters-in-law, Eldora Matthews all of Port Angeles, Marrian Matthews of Vancouver, WA; daughter and son-in-law Susan Matthews and Dave Komaroff; sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Margo Matthews, Jerry Matthews; five grandchildren John W. Matthews, Neil Dolan, Rachelle Dolan, Kevin Dolan and Katie Dolan; Numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Matthews, his parents, brothers, Ken Matthews and Floyd Matthews. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 209 West 11th St. at 10:30am with lunch following at 11:15am in the church hall. Graveside service will follow at 12:30pm, Mt. Angeles Cemetery.
