John E. McDougall

John "Jack" E. McDougall of Clearwater, Florida passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the age of 80. He was born in Gary, Indiana on November 6, 1931 and was the oldest of six children. He attended Lew Wallace High School and graduated from Hobart High School. Jack served four years in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Midway. He worked for the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway as a supervisor and retired after 36 years of dedicated service. After his retirement, Jack became very active in the community. He drove Meals on Wheels for years. He also served as a park board member in Portage, Indiana. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus 9114 chapter at Nativity of our Savior Catholic Church in Portage, Indiana. Jack was a fourth degree member and served as a grand knight. Jack was an avid golfer and bowler. He and his wife, Joan enjoyed traveling extensively in their retirement years. In 2007, Jack and Joan moved to Clearwater to be near family. Jack was loved by everyone who knew him. He exuded gentlemanly grace and love of life. He was a devout Catholic and member of Light of Christ parish. Jack is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan as well as his daughter Jacqueline McDougall of Safety Harbor; his daughter and son-in-law Sharon and John Cathcart of Clearwater; his granddaughter Paige Cathcart; his brother George R. (Rose) McDougall of Merrillville, Indiana; his sister Mary Lou Gaillard of Phoenix; his sister Patricia(Edward) Hirshouer of Beaver Creek, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10AM Tuesday, September 4th at Light of Christ Church, with burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Suncoast Hospice. David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Belcher Road Chapel in Clearwater is serving the family. Service Information
