January 24th, 1959 - December 14th, 2015
Murphy, John G. 56 of Virginia Beach and St. Petersburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 14, 2015. He was born in St. Petersburg, FL, on January 24, 1959 to the late John Gerald Murphy and Hattie Hunt Murphy. John graduated from St. Petersburg Senior High School. He retired from the United States Navy after 30 years of service as Master Chief. During his time in service, John served on several different campaigns. He enjoyed the outdoors, and he was an avid fisherman. John is survived by his mother, Hattie A. Hunt; siblings, William Patrick Hunt, Cynthia Rye, Mary Murphy; nephew, Michael Murphy; niece, Jennifer Kazzie of Richmond, V; and brother-in-law, James Ballance; and is predeceased by his brother, Joseph Hunt. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, December 19th, at 10AM at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. MLK St N, St Petersburg 33704. There will be an interment at Bay Pines National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in John's name to the Wounded Warrior Project. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family and many friends.
