Biography Kernersville-John Thomas Oglesby, Jr. 89, passed away February 1, 2012. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 11:00AM Saturday February 4, 2012 at Main Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Dr. Jeff Patterson, Rev. Dale Hilton, and Rev. Rick Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Cartaret County, he was the son of the late Nannie Joyner and John Thomas Oglesby, Sr. He served his country with the US Navy as a Naval Aviator during WWII. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist for twenty-two years, and served on various committees of the church. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his brother William J. Oglesby and a great-granddaughter Gracen Brooke Oglesby. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years Glennie Hooten Oglesby of Kernersville; daughters Nancy Stevenson and Tom of Cornelius, Patsy Gregory and Jim of Lexington, and Janet Giammattei of Cornelius; son Robert L. "Bob" Oglesby and Gloria of Kernersville; grandchildren Rob Oglesby and Wendy, Shannon Brinn and Galen, Ryan Oglesby and Melvin Seid, Jaime Lane and Kevin, Ashley West and Brian, Scott Gregory and Kimberly, Megan White and Seth, and Victoria and Michaela Giammattei; eleven great-grandchildren; and his sister Syble Sanderson of Cheraw, S.C. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the church.
