He was raised primarily in Caldwell with his 2 sisters and 2 brothers. He entered into rest October 28, 2012 in Middleton. In 1969 he enlisted in Navy and serviced proudly for 3 years. He enjoyed all the places his military service took him. He had many wonderful stories of his travels. On December 11, 1981 he married Cindy Naeve and they had 31 wonderful years together. To this union were born 2 children Jeannie Phillips-Downs and Gregory Phillips. He is very proud of his children In August of 2000 he took a R.O.A.D. (Realization Of A Dream) trip to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Wendover, Utah with his brother Ron, father Bill and son Greg. He set the very 1st land speed record for the C Class Production Pickup and he continued to set and break the record for 4 years. It really was a family affair. John enjoyed his employment as a security provider for the state of Idaho for 23 yrs. In May of 2004 he suffered a massive stroke and struggled with those effects and the effects of cancer for the next 8 1/2 years. During those years he was cared for not only by his family but by the BEST care provider and friend his family could have asked for: Sarah Hollaway. She became just like a daughter to him and Cindy, and a sister to Jeannie & Greg. John will be missed by all who knew and loved him, but we take comfort in knowing that he is now free of all that inhibited him. John is survived by the following: His wife Cindy, Daughter and Son-in-law Jeannie and Thad Downs, Son Greg Phillips, Sarah Hollaway and family.
