John Joseph Picuri
August 26th, 1925 - July 6th, 2012
John Joseph Picuri 86, of St. Petersburg, FL died on July 6, 2012 with his children and companion Magdalene 'Babe' Lowes by his side. John was born on August 26, 1925 in Jersey City, NJ to John and Irene (Capone) Picuri. He enlisted in the US Navy during WWII at the age of 17. He served on the USS Wisconsin, of which he was a plank owner, and fought in the Pacific Theater. John was awarded five medals and two ribbons, including the Combat Action Ribbon for his service. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and later that year married Marie Amelia Forte. He met Marie in Philadelphia while he was stationed there prior to his deployment. They married on Oct. 19th and began their marriage of 54 years. During those 54 years they raised six children: Peter, Irene (Jim) Story, Cecelia (Bill) Sanson, Joseph (Melissa), and Maria (Jason) Gress. He was predeceased by his wife Marie and son, Julius. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Grace, Cecelia and Rita and Julius' companion Brynda Peterson. He was blessed with fifteen grandchildren: James (Michelle), Maria (Max), Michael (Rachael), John (Katy), Daniel (Max), Mark (Kate), Ellen, Christopher, Kierra, Jules, Madison, Stella, Jackson, Margo, and Ellis. His great grandchildren are James, Julius, Mia, Deanna, Luke, Natalia, and Hannah. John was a world traveler with many interests. He was an avid reader and followed politics and finance closely. John was fortunate to share the last part of his life with Magdalene who lovingly cared for him during his illness. John's children are grateful for the love and support of their parents. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, July 10th from 5-7pm at Anderson McQueen Family Tribute Center, 2201 9th St N in St. Petersburg. There will be a mass service at Holy Family Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 11th at 10am.
