John Vedder Pryor
January 7th, 1932 - July 17th, 2007
John Vedder Pryor, 75, of Mohawk Street, Canajoharie, NY passed away on July 17, 2007 after a short illness. He was the husband of Loretta Conti Pryor. He was born on January 7, 1932, the son of Thomas R. and Helen Vedder Pryor of Schoharie, NY. He spent his first years in Schoharie and graduated from Schoharie Central School in 1950. He received honors in both academics and athletics. After graduation he was recruited as a pitcher by the New York Yankee Baseball Organization and signed a contract with them. He later joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Seattle, Washington. He then attended the University of Washington for three years. His first marriage ended in divorce at this time. He returned to Canajoharie, NY where he established a hot dog vending business in Canajoharie and Ft. Plain along with his wife Loretta, who survives. She is still running the popular business after thirty four years. John was a member of the Eagles Club and the American Legion. He is survived by five step- children, Shelia Brust and her husband Bruce, Sandra Prime and her husband Terry, Richard Conti and his wife Cherri, Joanne Pecora and her husband Frank, Diane Boslet and her husband Michael, along with their children and grandchildren; two siblings, Rex Pryor and his wife Marie and Helen Smith and her husband Donald and families. He was predeceased by one sister, Alice Hamm. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 7p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie. A calling hour will precede the funeral from 5 until 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Canajoharie Library, Erie Blvd., Canajoharie, NY 13317 or to the Mid- County Volunteer Ambulance Corp., PO Box 453 Palatine Bridge, NY 13428.
