John Paul Remington, MD

John Paul (Rem) Remington, M.D., 94, of Edmonds, Washington passed away peacefully on July 30, 2012. Rem was born in Colorado on December 5, 1917, one of four children born to Oliver S. and Pauline F. Remington. Rem was highly intelligent, well educated, and he graduated with top grades and in less than the required time from high school, college, and medical school. He attended college at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he played collegiate tennis and graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors. He then attended medical school at the University of Minnesota, and graduated with AOA honors. In 1942, Rem married his wife Dorothy. Almost immediately after the wedding, Rem left for Europe, where he served as a Captain in the Army during World War II. After his military service, Rem established a general surgery and primary care medical practice in Davenport, Washington. Rem was adored by all of his patients: His standard charge for a house call was just $3.00 or occasionally a sack of fresh vegetables. In Davenport, Rem also played an instrumental role in building the local hospital and Catholic parish. In 1970, Rem semi-retired and moved to Spokane, Washington to work in the emergency room and serve as a clinical instructor for the University of Washington. In 1995, Rem and Dorothy moved to Carefree, Arizona so that they could enjoy their hobbies in a warmer climate. In 2006, they moved to the Seattle area to be closer to their family. Rem was dedicated to his family, and family meant everything to him. He enjoyed following his sons sports careers, and eventually introduced them to the highly addicting sport of golf. He shot his age at 81 and had several hole-in-ones. Rem also enjoyed playing competitive bridge with Dorothy, both of whom attained Silver Life Master rankings; there were some spirited discussions after their bridge tournaments. Rem was also a very proud grandfather and great grandfather. In turn, Rems family revered Rem as the family patriarch, admired Rems strong moral compass, and loved Rems quick wit, kind heart, youthful soul, and broad open-mouthed smile. Likewise, Rem endeared himself to everyone who crossed his path regardless of age or backgrounds. He had the uncanny ability to remember all names of everyone with whom he had contact. A truly exceptional man who will be missed dearly. Rem was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy. Rem is survived by his two sons, John Mick (Ann) Remington, M.D. and Jeffrey P. (Sharon) Remington, M.D.; five grandchildren, Christine R. (Bob) Meyers, Michelle E.(David) Williamson, Matthew J. (Meghan) Remington, Brian P.(Monika) Remington, and Lindsey D. (Jason) Hansen; and seven great grandchildren, Mason Remington, Peyton Remington, Paige Remington, Mobius Williamson, Cooper Remington, Claire Meyers, and Bryce Hansen.
